The Vienna remodel we completed
Our Vienna project is a primary bathroom built around a freestanding soaking tub set in front of a black marble accent wall. Next to it, a walk-in shower behind a glass enclosure has a rainfall showerhead. It is a good example of what a full remodel is for: the tub, the shower, the wall finishes and the lighting were designed to work together, rather than being replaced one at a time over a decade.

Bathroom Brigade handled that remodel directly, without subcontracting the work to another company. We do not publish addresses or homeowner names.
When a full remodel is the right call
Most calls start with a single complaint: a shower that never feels clean, a vanity with nowhere to put anything, a floor tile that has cracked, a fan that only makes noise. The useful question is whether fixing that one item solves the problem. If the floor, shower and vanity are all near the end of their life, doing them separately means opening the same walls and floor more than once, and matching new finishes to old ones each time.
In Vienna this comes up often because so many homes date from the town's postwar growth. A bathroom that is several decades old may have original supply lines, a fan that vents into the attic or no fan at all, and a floor that has seen more than one leak. Once demolition starts, those conditions have to be dealt with anyway, so it usually makes sense to plan for them up front.
What a full bathroom remodel includes
- Layout and design planning for the whole room
- Shower, tub, or a shower/tub conversion
- Tile for the floor, shower surround and backsplash
- Vanity, countertop and fixtures
- Electrical and lighting updates, including the exhaust fan
- Plumbing relocation, when the layout calls for it
Plumbing and electrical are part of the project, not a separate hire. That matters in a remodel because the layout, the wiring and the drain locations are one set of decisions.
Layout decisions come first
Before anyone picks tile, decide where things go. Should the shower take over the tub alcove? Is there room for a second sink, or would a single vanity with more counter serve better? Can a linen closet become recessed storage? Those choices drive framing, drains, circuits and permits, so they belong at the start. Our guides on moving or adding a bathroom and on single versus double vanities walk through the trade-offs.
Permits for a Vienna bathroom remodel
Fairfax County Land Development Services lists bathroom remodels under interior alterations, and new, repaired or relocated plumbing, electrical and mechanical fixtures each need a permit. That is true whether your home is inside the Town of Vienna or has a Vienna address in unincorporated Fairfax County. Inside the Town, an interior bathroom above the basement with no exterior changes usually needs no Town submission, while a basement bathroom does. Our permits page has the details and the official links.
How a full remodel is priced
Bathroom Brigade publishes three reference tiers. Basic keeps the footprint with standard fixtures and tile. Mid-range adds new tile, vanity and shower with some layout changes. High-end includes a full layout change, a curbless or custom shower and premium fixtures; a primary bath like our Vienna project, with a freestanding tub and stone accent wall, sits toward that end of the scale.
| Tier | Typical Scope | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Same footprint, standard fixtures and tile. | $12,000–$25,000 |
| Mid-Range | New tile, vanity, and shower, with some layout changes. | $25,000–$40,000 |
| High-End | Full layout change, curbless or custom shower, premium fixtures. | $40,000–$70,000+ |
Typical Northern Virginia reference ranges from Bathroom Brigade's published cost guide. They are a planning starting point, not a quote. The written scope for your Vienna bathroom sets the actual price.
Have you remodeled a bathroom in Vienna?▸
Yes. Bathroom Brigade completed a luxury full remodel of a primary bathroom in Vienna with a freestanding soaking tub, black marble accent wall and glass walk-in shower. Photos are on our projects page.
How long does a full bathroom remodel take?▸
It depends on the scope. A full remodel takes longer than a single-fixture update such as a vanity swap, and inspections are part of the schedule. You get a project-specific timeline with your estimate.
Do I need a permit for a full bathroom remodel in Vienna?▸
Usually. Fairfax County treats bathroom remodels as interior alterations and requires permits for new or relocated plumbing, electrical and mechanical work. Inside the Town of Vienna, basement bathrooms also need a Town submission.
Will you subcontract my remodel?▸
No. Bathroom Brigade is a division of Kenney Construction, and the same licensed, insured and bonded company handles the work directly.
